Honestly, our press corps is pathetic.

For years now, my one essential piece of internet-related advice was “Delete your Twitter account.” I was only half-joking. Twitter has clearly made many people’s lives worse, and it is a self-inflicted wound that each of those people has always had the power to stitch up. It did not suddenly become an awful platform within the last 24 hours; it has always been a nightmare and every person reading this knows it.

So if you have a problem, just leave. You don’t need it.

And I do mean leave. I don’t mean put some app on your phone that tracks how much time you spend on Twitter and makes you feel momentarily sad once a week. I also don’t mean stay on Twitter, but piss and moan about it every goddamn day to balance the scales. I mean delete your account and walk away.

The impetus for this little rant was this CNN article, one of about eight on the same topic that they published today. It features that typical admixture of self-pity and self-congratulation that you get in every navel-gazing article that elite media types write about themselves.
